The late strike from Argentine striker Carls Tevez saved the Red Devils to keep in touch in the point table with Liverool and Chelsea.

It was an important win for them. The three points moved them into the to four of the point table with two games in hand from the others.

Last week they become the best club of the world, winning the World Club Cup Championship.

Man Utd started the match with Berbatov not in the staring line up. Tevez is getting more chances in the first eleven for the last few games.

Fergi’s side looked tired during the match. Their ball control was not good, thoigh they possessed the ball more than the opponent.

Stoke full-back Andy Wilkinson saw his second yellow and was left out of the pitch in the 72nd minutes and it helped the Red Devils to earn their all important 3 points.

United looked off the pace and struggled to make significant inroads against a well-organised defence of Stoke who handled the threat of Wayne Rooney and Tevez with ease during the opening 45 minutes.

In fact United managed just one effort on target during a frustrating first-half, a near post header from Rooney that was well saved by Stoke keeper Thomas Sorensen.

In the early second half, Tevez and Scholes created some good efforts. But Stoke goalkeeper Sorensen frustrated them.

Ronaldo also was not in his natural form. It seemed that his shadow was on the pitch.

But he still managed to wind Wilkinson up to such an extent the Stoke full-back completely lost his head and dived into a stupid tackle from behind to earn a second yellow card and hand United a crucial advantage during the final minutes of the game.

And seven minutes from time Tevez broke the deadlock. United substitute Dimitar Berbatov produced a sublime turn to create space in the Stoke penalty area and set up Tevez for the close range strike.

With Chelsea and Liverpool both having dropped points in reigning champions United’s absence from England, this victory was perfectly timed to increase the pressure at the head of the table.
