Wayne Bridge looks set to leave the Bridge as City limit towards their first signing of the winter...
Manchester City are on the verge of completing the £12 million signing of Wayne Bridge from Chelsea.
Mark Hughes, the manager is desperate to find a cure for the club’s problematic left-back slot, as neither Javier Garrido nor Michael Ball have been able to stake a convincing claim.
Hughes has also been tracking Bayern Munich’s Philipp Lahm, who can play on either side of defence and as a winger, but the German giants are unlikely to let their star full-back leave unless they receive an astronomical offer.
So, Bridge is at once a more economical and reliable option, as he has 250 Premier League games under his belt as well as 32 caps for England.
Bridge himself is reported to be eager for a new challenge, as for all his consistency he has been unable to displace Ashley Cole as the Blues’ first-choice left-back.
The deal is expected to be completed within some days.
