Manchester United´s Cristiano Ronaldo handballs, leading to his sending off during the match against rivals Manchester City.

Manchester United earned a 1-0 win over bitter rivals Manchester City at Eastlands on Sunday despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s bizarre sending-off.

Cashed-up and confident Manchester City hosted their cross-city rivals in the most keenly anticipated Mancunian derby for quite some time. Mark Hughes’ men, hoping to replicate the first stanza of last season’s double, were buoyed by the return of Robinho, who missed their midweek UEFA Cup fixture.

Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov started up top for Manchester United, and it was they who caused most of the problems in the opening 45 minutes.

Del Piero hits 250 as Juventus hit four past Reggina

Despite poor weather conditions, Juventus managed to put on a good show in front of their home fans as they easily dealt with Reggina, who shipped in four goals at the Olympic Stadium of Turin.

Veteran forward Alessandro Del Piero bagged his 250th Juventus goal and the Turin giants climbed up to second in the Serie A table with a 4-0 victory over Reggina in snowy Turin on Saturday.

Juventus welcomed a Reggina side coming off two consecutive victories against Udinese and Atalanta hoping to bounce back immediately from their 1-0 defeat to Inter last week. Coach Claudio Ranieri played with his usual 4-4-2 formation with captain Alessandro Del Piero and Amauri up front, while Reggina’s Nevio Orlandi opted for a 4-4-1-1 system with Franco Brienza behind Francesco Cozza in attack.

Getafe Edge Madrid Derby. An inspired performance from Getafe earned a famous win over city rivals Real Madrid in a electric encounter on Saturday night…

Getafe shocked mighty Real Madrid 3-1 on Saturday to pile renewed pressure on Real coach Bernard Schuster whose side have now lost two of their last three Spanish league games.

Getafe lined up as expected, with all eyes on Esteban Granero and Roberto Soldado, two players not deemed good enough for the Bernabeu who were looking to punish their former club. Manu Del Moral, who scored their goal at the Camp Nou last week, was not fit to play.

Bernard Schuster, meanwhile, had to make some enforced changes due to the worsening injury situation. Miguel Torres continued to fill in at right-back, while Javier Saviola earned a rare start up front, in place of the crocked Gonzalo Higuain.

Posted by Faiyaz On November - 29 - 2008

Mohammad Yousuf, famous for his stylish batsmanship, on Tuesday fired verbal volleys on  Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik, saying that his attitude was one of the reasons for him joining the Indian Cricket League.

Reacting to Malik’s charge that Yousuf was not keen on playing for the country and that he was just making excuses for not doing so, the bearded batsman said, “Why would I give an excuse. People who don’t perform give excuses, whereas I have been performing throughout my career. First he should look at his own performance and then level allegations against others.”

Fergi rules City out

Posted by Faiyaz On November - 29 - 2008

City are regarded as the richest team in world football after their September takeover by an oil-rich Arab group. But, pointing out that Mark Hughes’ side are 11th in the table, Ferguson said: “Where are they at the moment? “Excuse me! At this moment in time, our threats are still Chelsea and Liverpool who are sitting above us, aren’t they?”

City are expected to be big spenders in the January transfer window, when Hughes will get the chance to spend some of Abu Dhabi United’s immense wealth to strengthen his squad.
